Fans are convinced that Andre Onana was off his line after the 27-year-old saved a last-minute penalty in Manchester United’s win over Copenhagen.

The Cameroon international has struggled for form since his move from Ajax in the summer, but made himself a hero at Old Trafford last night.

Erik ten Hag’s side secured their first Champions League win of the season, with Harry Maguire netting the only goal of the game.

Onana was called into action late on and saved a last-gasp penalty save after Scott McTominay committed a foul in the box deep into added time.

Several fans have since taken to social media, claiming that the goalkeeper stepped off his line and that Jordan Larsson should have been allowed to retake his kick.

One fan took to X, formerly known as Twitter, saying: ‘Onana is 100% off his line when the ball is struck.

‘Remember this next time the pitchforks are out at Old Trafford.’

While another fan posted: ‘Guarantee Onana was off his line. Why are they not showing the replay?

‘Onana was clear off his line, that penalty certainly should’ve been retaken,’ another posted.

After the game, the Cameroonian made a promise to Manchester United fans following his heroic goalkeeping display against Copenhagen.

Onana told: ‘Of course [there’s resilience]. We are Manchester United, we’re a very big club with big players.

‘So it’s just a matter of time, now we have to continue like this and we’ll get through this.

‘I just had to do my job, you know,’ added Onana. ‘I had to do it for us to win, to win against a very tough opponent, we had a great game.

‘Great goal from the big man, Harry, and I’m very happy, we have to continue like that.’

Despite Onana’s heroics in-between the sticks, fans remain convinced that he was off his line as the spot-kick was taken.

‘Pen should’ve been retaken. Onana is off his line and half the utd side had encroached,’ another fan posted.

‘Garnacho wrecking the penalty spot. Onana was off his line before pen was taken. United players were in the box before pen was taken. Harry Maguire scored.

‘Man United rigging the tournament,’ another fan posted.

Another fan was quick to bring up the fact that one of the United players ‘scuffed’ the penalty spot.

The post reads: ‘Love that VAR just allowed Onana off his line and the ref was watching the United player scuff the pk spot.’

Alejandro Garnacho was caught on camera scuffing the penalty spot at Old Trafford in the build-up to Onana’s game-winning spot-kick save against FC Copenhagen.

Footage shows the Manchester United man stamping on the spot using both of his feet whilst referee Marco Guida was busy dealing with remonstrating players.

Both United boss Erik ten Hag and his Copenhagen counterpart Jacob Neestrup were unaware of what Garnacho had done.

Ten Hag said: ‘I didn’t see it. The referee probably didn’t see it either. I don’t know.’

United will be looking to make it four wins in a row when they host neighbours Manchester City on Sunday – with Onana likely to start from the off against Pep Guardiola’s side.
