Man City striker Erling Haaland has made his feelings known on Pep Guardiola’s tendency to shout at him on the pitch.

The 23-year-old was named UEFA Men’s Player of the Year after a record-breaking season that saw him score 52 goals.

He helped City to a historic treble in his first season at the club and had already received a number of individual awards, including the Premier League’s player of the season and young player of the season.

It came amid constant animated advice from Guardiola, who was named UEFA Men’s  Coach of the Year and Haaland has now broken his silence on the manager’s approach.

When asked during the awards ceremony who was scarier out of the City boss and his father Alf-Inge Haaland, the striker replied:  ‘Good question, sometimes Pep is a bit scary, I have to say. But my father can also be a bit scary.

‘But anyways this is something I like, I like it when Pep shouts at me because he tries to get something in my brain that he doesn’t think I have.

‘So I like it, I’m not complaining at all, he just wants to make me a better footballer so I’m not complaining at all.’

Haaland won the UEFA award comfortably after picking up 352 points, over 100 more than his nearest rival Lionel Messi (227 points).

Three of his treble-winning Man City teammate made the top 10 in Kevin De Bruyne (225 points), Rodri (110 points) and Ilkay Gundogan (129 points), although the latter has since left for Barcelona.

Declan Rice and Alexis Mac Allister were the only other Premier League names to make the list.

Haaland has started the new season in ominously familiar form with three goals in the first three games of the season, including a stunner against Burnley on the opening day.

Aitana Bonmatí won the Women’s Player of the Year award after winning the League and Champions League with Barcelona before clinching World Cup glory with Spain in Australia.

The 25-year-old midfielder was given the tournament’s Golden Ball award and was a key presence for the World Champions throughout.

England boss Sarina Wiegman was given the Women’s Coach of the Year award after following last year’s Euros success by taking the Lionesses to the World Cup final.
