AC Milan’s roller coaster season took a downhill dip on Wednesday, and Christian Pulisic acknowledged that it’s going to take some work to get back to winning ways.

A 3-0 Champions League defeat against Paris Saint-Germain significantly dented the club’s hopes of surviving a difficult Group F.

The Rossoneri seemed at times to be playing dead even with PSG, but Kylian Mbappé’s goal late in the first half sapped the Serie A giant of some verve. PSG took over in the second half, even after seeing Ousmane Dembélé’s 48th-minute strike ruled out for a foul suffered by Yunus Musah in the build-up. Goals on the break from Randal Kolo Muani and Lee Kang-in padded the Parisian club’s lead.

The loss leaves Milan, still awaiting a first goal in this year’s Champions League, at the bottom of Group F after three rounds of games, two points behind both Borussia Dortmund and Newcastle.

Over the club’s last four games, Milan has just one goal and one win (and that victory came the hard way). It’s never good when a club collects more red cards — the Rossoneri have had a man sent off in each of the club’s last two Serie A fixtures — in a month than they do goals, but that’s where Milan is at.

After the match, Pulisic said that the group has no choice but to lean on hard work to get back on course.

“We just have to keep working. I guess it’s just not flowing right now, but it will come again,” said the U.S. men’s national team attacker. “I guess we weren’t clinical enough. You know, I have to put a chance away today. It’s on us.”

Pulisic may be referring to a first-half opportunity in which he opted for a tricky pass to Olivier Giroud when a shot may have been the wiser decision.

Despite the frustrations after another tough result, Pulisic cautioned against an overreaction.

“We have to focus on the next game. You know, we’re not out of it yet. We just need to string a couple wins together,” said the 25-year-old. “We’ve had some tough games in some tough stadiums, but it’s no excuse. We need to turn it around. We need to win.”

Pulisic may have a point. Milan has played two of its three away matches in Group F, and could be right back into a top-two place after matchday four. A return match against PSG is the club’s next Champions League assignment, followed by another game at the San Siro against Dortmund later in November.

“I think we just have to keep our heads up. It doesn’t feel like a game that we should lose 3-0, I think is the message,” added Pulisic. “We’ll be fine going forward. We’re a confident bunch of guys.”
